X99/X79/X58 Updates

Zando_

Planning a few more builds (have all the parts I need either here or on the way for two, 3rd needs some other stuff though) so I figured I'd make one big thread for all of them.

Let's start if off with my current rig, and the only one actually completed. Build log for that is actually done though, it's here:

Spoiler

I'll slap the PCPP list here as well:

This rig currently lives on a table next to my TV, it's basically an extremely overkill console replacement. Since my TV is a 4K panel, it can actually justify the Radeon VII, something the 1080p monitors I usually use cannot. I can say that hot damn, pushing BOTW at 4K in CEMU is certainly a lot more impressive than the Switch struggling (under heavy rain or on the Korok forest) at 1080p30.

Next up is another X99 rig, one I will be building sometime this week or weekend:

There may be a change of cooler depending on whether I can track down some mounting hardware for my CoolerMaster V6 GT, but that'll be it. I've had this rig built up before but tore it down for another project. I should be able to post updates for this tonight ?

On Friday the mobo/CPU/RAM combo (many thanks to @Founders) for this should be here:

I have all the other parts in-house, should be good to build this Friday night/Saturday morning. Then it'll be time to push it and see what the CPU/GPUs can do. I've had these 780s running at least 1333Mhz core for a run or two of FireStrike before, will see if they wanna do that again, provided I can keep them cool.

The case for this also arrives Friday:

If I have the time this weekend I'll put it together. As you can see I don't have a GPU for it yet ?. I was thinking maybe a GTX 690? I don't know that my PSU could handle two of those though. SLI 970s might be an option as well. If anyone has any other suggestions of cool older GPUs I can get for around $90-150 each, lemme know.

Since I'm currently at work and not home building, have a pic of how stupidly large the X58 mobo for the last rig is:
IMG_2820.thumb.jpg.1578cb4ee6ca10bfeb0e1936fded2073.jpg

This is inside the Air 540 I plan to use for my X79 stuff once that gets here. Bottom PCIe slot isn't usable and it's the top 2 PCIe expansion slots are above any of the slots on the mobo. XL-ATX is a hell of a mobo standard lol, this specific board is basically a very tall EATX one. Thus the need for the 750D, which I must admit I'm pretty excited for. Managed to snag the last one of those that Amazon had too, which was quite nice.

Weeeellll oof ran into some unexpected stuff and missed the package for my X79 gear, so I picked that up this morning on the way in to work, should be able to get moving on that rig tonight.

Had issues with finding the darned standoffs for my Meshify C Mini I'm using in the X99 rig, decided to use shorter ones that use screws I don't like but then I misplaced one of those, ugh. I have a bunch more in a box, just didn't want to dig them out this morning, tonight I should be able to do that and finish that rig up as well though. Mobo/RAM/CPU package is nice and compact with the L12S though:

Also some pics of the X79 Dark:

Again massive thanks to Founders (will avoid a tag this time tho), they included the OG box and accessories too:

Just has dust on it from being in a system, board itself is mint ?

They're chonky lads for sure, that GPU next to them is a broken 1060 SSC, aka a "normal" sized card. Damn pretty cards once in the system as well:

X79 rig up and running!

Cables fit.... barely:
IMG_0402.thumb.jpg.e4be5e20ccbddaf2c72ef788331e98d3.jpg

T2 is a hell of a power supply lol, thing adds what feels like 10 pounds to the rig (okay, checked specs, it's a 13 pound PSU ?)

GPU sag and the AIO tubing is killing me tho:

So now it lies flat.

  • 2 weeks later...

Some plans changed, eliminating the smaller X99 rig (mobo is going to a friend), putting the 1660 Ti from that into my X79 rig, and moving the GTX 780s to my X58 rig. This saves me from needing to hunt down new GPUs too! ?

Goodies came for said X58 rig, replacing these stock fans:

gahajsjasj.thumb.jpg.bc788eb1a150268b4f73f881c56fad7e.jpg.ae3dca003c3e2982793c2db1a26976f9.jpg

With 5 of these (2 top intakes, 2 front intakes, 1 rear exhaust):

459015915_dkfkmcvhfhj.thumb.jpg.90718a93d8904f63388ee8e93c6234f6.jpg.3fb8bb5bdfc027ec91aa5d66734dfcdb.jpg

Noctua NF-A14 iPPC 3000 PWMs, shouldn't be having any issues moving air ?. Also got a Phanteks fan controller, turns out it's magnetic too, which was an awesome surprise because the Corsair 750D is a mostly steel case:

ahaha.thumb.jpg.58c0a79f6378a163f82ea98e7fa0f593.jpg.8d302e79cb1a06bb55daa76a7c75a534.jpg

2 of these suckers too:

GPU support brackets, they're anodized aluminum and absolutely gorgeous and perfectly crafted, impressive for being an $11 part. Also work either way up, which is handy because I had to use them "upside down" due to the SLI config:

IMG_0804.thumb.jpg.26c6a59364400f0ce88a32ca7b158c48.jpg

Disregard my terrible off-kilter late night phone snap that makes them somehow look like they're sagging when they're not ?

Will be using this X5675:

And current state of the rig, mostly just added the PowerLinks so far lol:

Proooobably going to dig out my stock T2 cables and get the rig up and running with those for now, they'll make getting the measurements for custom cables easier.

On that topic, @CableMod how are the lengths of y'alls cables measured? From end to end including the connectors (blue) or just the actual cable itself (red)?

Those EVGA power things look really nice actually. I like it!

Indeed. Once I get custom cables I can do a clean backwards C straight to the PSU too, should look quite nice and help fill in the empty area between the end of the GPUs and the front fans ?

@Zando Bob the lengths are measured by the wire, the connectors are not included in the length factor. :)

Oho, thanks! Just wanted to make sure before I went about measuring lol ?

X79 rig rebuilt in a P400 since the Air 540 is just far too wide to comfortably fit on my desk:

Cables barely fit due to the EATX mobo covering the normal passthroughs, but made it work ?. Might pull the GPU cable up a little higher today, since I have P14S fans arriving for the rad so I'll be in the rig anyways.

EDIT: And PCPP list for this rig:
