found a better priced one over here, sightly more expensive but much cheaper shipping and no import tax so nearly 40$ less over all.

simply i am not

the meme machine is going in there temporarily, until the are too many cars to fit. (which will be when the GTX690 arrives).

then i will take my rig out of the Thermaltake core p3 its currently in, the meme machine will go into that case, and the main rig into the 175r.

the RM850 PSU will stay in the 175r and the RM1000i will stay in the P3.

this way my main rig goes into a smaller and more practical case, and the meme machine goes into a case where it has room for its expantion. (the Mother board will stay in the P3 and a frame will hold the Cards next to it.

P.S. i am not sure i have explained it very well so i will try agian when the switch happens.

no, I understand, ur gonna have cpu, memory, cpu cooler, motherboard in the p3, then the gpus in a mining rack, with risers going into the motherboard.

I don't even know where to begin with this, but I honestly doubt it will work, as the CPU most likely wouldn't be able to handle that many GPUs, but I am morbidly fascinated with the concept.

I'm afraid that you are going to run out of PCI-e lanes like immediately.  Even if you assign a X1 to each card, PCIe 3.0/x1 is 1.97GBps, you only have 16 to play with.  If I was you, I'd look into an older Xenon or Dual Xenon configuration to do this.  For example a Intel Xeon E5 1630 has 40 PCIe lanes

he is using dual gpus, so basically 2 gpus in one card, with one lane used.

essentially that's it, at PCIe 1x for each card 13 of the 16 lanes would be used, the PLX chip on the cards the switches so both GPUs believe they have a 1x link.

The xenon solution would not work because the motherboards for those platforms don't have the physical connectors to support this sort of set up. the whole Genesis of this idea was because i bought the Asus B250 mining expert of a friend really cheap.

as a preview of what will come up nearer the end of the project, the system will probably end up running on Linux. my expectation is that it will probably boot with everything installed, however the software will almost certainly just ignore the cards. my goal is tho get all 27 gpu's working at maximum load concurrently. this is currently the biggest difficulty facing the project.

i'm thinking of doing something a little more flashy, something akin to a render. i'm going to see if i can use some of the stuff i do at work to show it off, but that is difficult due to some of the NDA's i work with.

i'm not sure yet, it depends on what software i can get to play ball easily.

i will have to get some help setting up mining on it (i never did any mining while it was a big thing) but once the build is done i will definitely do some of that basically as the first demo.

if, as appears likely more visual software in its standard state won't work with this many GPUs, then  i (and by i i mean some of my friends, while i provide vast amounts of tea) will have to build something custom to convince a program like blender to work with us. this is the part of the project that might just catastrophically fail.

It's a shame the 3850 Trinity never came to market... you could match that 40 GPU supercomputer :)
