Well, if you dont want to change your motherboard, you should go with a Ryzen 5 2600/2600x or a Ryzen 7 2700/2700X. Depends on what your ram is (DDR4-2133, DDR-2666?)

If its budget u want then an AMD 3200G APU using your ram and Video Card.

He'd still need to change his motherboard because he is on Intel.

Best option is what SavageNeo said, because you have an external gpu don't bother with an APU.

He will have to change his board to get an AMD Chip as his current board is INTEL.

No, you are looking at the wrong board. For starters, there are tons of MSI PRO-VHD, for different chipsets, spanning Intel and AMD.

OP stated he has an Intel i3-7100

OP: your cheapest route may be to buy a used i5-7xxx, maybe a used i7-7xxx

Intel and AMD make socket/chipset in commons now ? Pro-VHD exist for b250/b360 (intel) and b350/b450 (AMD).

Its fine. The ryzen 5 3600 is so much better than your i3 than you can imagine. But still, you could go cheaper.

Ryzen 5 1600 looks nice with it's six cores and reasonable price.

The motherboard has only 2 memory slots.

I think Ryzen 5 1600 is the max that I can afford.

Well, you said your budget is 300-350 euros. Tell me a new budget and what you need the processor for (gaming, editing, etc.)?

i'd still recommend the ryzen 5 2600, because its not that "old" and its only 20$ more, but you can go with the ryzen 5 1600 or the ryzen 5 2600, as you like

You should go with a 2600 and a cheap b450 board, seeing as the 3600 still does not justify the price gap and the 1600 and 2600 are similar in price and are worth that little extra.
