How does the headphone and microphone jack on case's panels work?

Windows95

I mean these:

I never understood what those do. Does anyone actually use them? how do you plug them to the motherboard? I assume there is a cable that you can plug into the botherboard.. I have a define R4 and an old board (gigabyte x38dq6) what do I do so I can plug the headphone there instead of into the back of the computer which is annoying?

This.

Check your motherboard to see if it has a front panel audio header or refer to your motherboard manual.

Your board does have front audio, look for the "F_Audio" connector between your Rear Audio jacks and your first PCIe 1X slot.

It should, otherwise they wouldn't put front audio, and the cables are mentioned in the manual
