Is the upgrade from a 1050 ti to a RX 590 worth it?

Is the upgrade from a 1050 ti to a RX 590 worth it? Or did I end up wasting 180$ on a not much better card. Yes I did do my research and I checked userbenchmark and it is indeed better but I don't know if it would be worth it for 2020 with VR coming into the picture. I do actually play quite a bit of VR on a oculus rift s but some games were very studdery. Any opinion is appreciated!

I don't think it's worth it, save your money and wait until Nvidia release their new GPUs.

It’s not an amazing card, but it’s definitely adequate.

It's a much better card, no worries there.

 

The problem consists in the fact that any card you get (theoretically) now will drop even more in price since the 3000 series ought to be released in late summer-ish. Obviously you did get your card and need to get through this buyers' remorse. Don't worry $180 is not a total rip-off.

 

So if one wants to really really play right now - get a 590, sure. Otherwise I'd wait and snatch a super-series 2060 card in half a year (as an example).

Because the 1650s has lower performance and the 1660s was not the crazily better and isn't within my budget. Thanks for the options though.

IMHO no it's not worth the upgrade.  I would go for an 5500 xt or 5600 xt.  In the end, it's your call as it's your money.

1. Depend on games but overall 1650s is slightly slower over 590, around 5%-8%.

2. 1660s is around 15%-20% faster over 590. Much faster when overclocked. 

3. 1650s Strix have higher power limit(130w) which you can OC and overtake 590 performance while consuming over 100 watts less. 

4. Your weaker CPU will benefit more using Nvidia GPU in many DX11 games because of better threaded driver. ¹

5. Your CPU is too weak for VR imo^*

6. Make sure your PSU is adequate for 590 if you buy that.

I got a RX 590 sapphire nitro+ SE for 180$

 I found a 1660s for 220$ GIGABYTE GeForce GTX 1660 SUPER OC GDDR6 Graphics Card - 6GB on ebay (sorry for font switch!)

 And I also found a 163$ 1650s MSI GeForce GTX 1650 SUPER DirectX 12 GTX 1650 Super Ventus XS OC 4GB 128-Bit GD on ebay.

But the 590 has better performance despite the pcie 4.0 and gddr6 features. So not the greatest unless you prefer those.

Marginally slower iirc but at that price $220 1660s is a much better choice.
