Is samsung better than micron?

Im planning to buy my 2080ti from evga but i keep hearing how micron is bad? Is there anyway to chose or its basically luck? And is there difference in performance and stability of the card?

Hummm well I have used Micron DDR3 in the past without issue! I know were talking vram here but I've never had an issue with the micron brand before in Ram for PC! That's interesting I wonder what is causing the issue or if it was just a bad lot of ram they used to build the cards..

I think you're just more likely to get better overclocks with Samsung memory rather than with Micron, but I could be wrong on that. Stability problems got ironed out a few months after launch so I reckon you shouldn't have anything to worry about now.

I had a 2070 with Micron memory run for a little over a year with no issues, and now I'm running a 2070S with Micron memory also, can't really comment on this new card though as it's only been in use for a couple of days now.

I have a EVGA XC 2080 ti with Micron and a FTW3 Ultra with Samsung.

 

The Samsung clocks to 8100mhz and crashes at 8200mhz. It crashes the bench but not the computer.

the Micron clocks at 8200mhz and crashes at 8300mhz. It crashes(freezes) the computer.

 

The Samsung crashes immediately and the Micron crashes about half way through a bench. 

The Micron likes to waste my time so I don't like it. 

 

I also have two EVGA GTX 1080 ti SC2s with Micron and Samsung ram. They clock the same and are now used in SLI.

I dont overclock. But im worried that micron has less performance than samsung fps wise or not?

No difference at all in my case. One of my 2080Ti is Micron other Samsung. I think the only difference MIGHT be on how they handle stress under OCC.

Anecdotally I've seen more Micron VRAM Turing cards have memory issues, and historically Samsung memory chips seem to be better for overclocking but I wouldn't blanket statement say that Micron is bad.

 

They are one of the largest memory manufacturers in the world because generally their chips are good - I think they just had a big batch of worse-than-expected chips that ended up in the first few rounds of RTX graphics cards. That being said, I am paranoid and have only bought RTX cards with Samsung memory as a result of those early issues.
