Why do games run smoother on my monitor?

You're rendering about 50% more pixels so you're losing almost 50% frames per second

So I recently borrowed my friend's 16:9 1080p 60 Hz monitor to test it out and see if I will buy it, what I have noticed is that when I set that monitor on 1080p I get an FPS of 40 in GTA V Ultra 2x MSAA even though when I switch back to my dell 1908FP 5:4 monitor at 1280x1024 I get around 74 FPS...

Why?

My PC specs:

i5-4590

8 GB RAM (dual channel 1600 MHz)

AMD Radeon RX 570

Nah. Since it got a higher resolution it got more space/pixels to fill, which of course makes a diffrence in fps. Exact same thing on youtube videos. If u play a vidoe at 144p it loads faster as its less pixels on screen to load, compared to 720p.
