Aha! Overclocking a non-K CPU can be done (Proof)

Thats not an overclock.

Right, my 3930K with stock settings boosts to 3.4GHz when all 6 cores are being tortured, enabling XMP or changing the ram speed from 1333 to 1600 gives me a frequency of 3.8GHz with all 6 cores. There's another programmed vcore in the cpu for the full boost with all cores being loaded. My stock vcore is around 1.17V and 1.278 with xmp, so I thought it might be overvolting until I had to rma my board and the vcore was again 1.278V.

People just dont know that there's an agressive turbo boost.

If you want to see a good OC on baseclock just look at me OC'ing from 2.27Ghz to 4.1Ghz.

No one ever said it couldn't be OCd. But you won't be able to reach as high as a k CPU...I challenge you to get 4.2+

Have you not seen a 3820 OCd those can get a quite good OC. I would re OC mine but its in my HTPC/Server and that really isnt needed.

The 3820 is a pretty good overclocker - some can get 5 GHz (not many, but you can get lucky). It's not "unlocked", but you can raise the multiplier and BCLK to get good overclocks iirc. Generally speaking, most 3820s can get around 4.6GHz.

I use to Have a 8320 got it to @4.8Ghz/1.45 Volts

I oc'd my old i5 3330 from 3.0 ghz to 3.6 without a problem 

just increase the multiplyer and u ll be fine 

just dont push it too hard

so how exactly did you overclock your 4770? I also have one on a asus z87-a and I'd love to overclock it, but I'm not really sure how to without using the normal way with a K part.

Occt is just a far better program for stress testing. It was made for stress testing, prime95 was a prime number calculator.

I've heard somewhere that you can OC a non-K Skylake by downgrading your motherboard's bios version to an earlier version where OC is supported. I'm not entirely sure but for me, I'll leave things the way the way they are
