can red 8k cameras take pictures??

they 8k cameras what linus uses,can they take pictures?i seen punch videos,but i just wonder can they take pictures to?if they can,what kind quality pictures have or how good are they?

The single most important part of a camera, is the user.

In other words, quality depends. In the hands of a pro, they are fantastic. In the hands of an idiot, not so much.

There is no point. A photo camera is much smaller and easier to handle.

You can in post processing grab stills from video but why would you, unless you had a specific need?

We use the 8K cameras to take "pictures" all the time.

 

Since it's on set anyway, we use it to shoot the video thumbnail more often than not. We just roll a short snippet of footage and then the editor extracts the best still moment. 

 

The best camera for the job is the one in your hand ?

they can "take" pictures in sense that you can grab a still frame out of a video file.  the red cameras are not photography cameras they are video cameras

yeah what would i know about cameras or cinematography compared to you tech people.  i've only done this work for nearly 20 years, won a few awards, worked in over a dozen different countries and a few multi million dollar projects
