Need help with Computer Monitor Audio

I have the LG Ultragear Monitor that sadly doesn't have built in speakers. The only possible way of getting audio from it is a headphone jack in the back. I was wondering if its possible to hook them up to some external speakers? My dad has small speakers that connect with speaker wire can I convert it to pull the audio from the headphone jack by converting the signals like speaker wire to rca and flip the rca to the headphone jack? Do I need a special converter box or wire? If you got suggestion I will greatly appreciate it.
