Do you use optical drives?

I used it to extract drivers from a dvd so I could install drivers on a PC that didn't have an optical drive. I use it to burn CD's for car rides (car doesn't have a 3.5mm jack)

Playing older games that I still have on disks (Sims 3, Simcity 2000, Simcity 4, Defense Grid, etc.) Watching movies that aren't on Netflix

 

And others things that I can't think of right now

I do but not often, I have had it unplugged for about 2 months now so. I have a bunch of old games that are disc from my pre-steam era, like the Sims 2 and 3 so if I have to install them I will use the drive.

My dad uses the car's cd player so I just use for installing Windows and burning his music.

No space for one. The day I need one is the day reconsider what I'm doing with my life....which also coincides with the day I buy an external one

I used mine maybe three times in the course of 4 years.

Ultrabook doesn't have one, haven't even noticed it's gone to be honest. Except you know, the added lightness.

thing is that these days you don't even need them for OS installs though. I've been using flash drives for installing windows 7 for god knows how long.

Well there's other uses for it than an optical drive, so this won't turn into that.

Optical drives are still useful for those of us who are older than 30. Without them its hard to rip those cd collections we built up in our youth.
