Been using it now and then on my Nvidia shield during beta.. 
You need a good internet connection thats for sure but when it works its pretty good really.. had access to my entire steam library. I tested Project cars 2 and that seemed to work fine, but i was sitting back a bit as was playing it on my TV @4k and not close up to a laptop. 

 

Its not really a service for me as I have a high end gaming computer but the people who cant afford one then its an awesome option and i guess the service will get better over time as well.

Streamed gaming is cool option for low end systems. But it'll never substitute local compute on a high end CPU and GPU. Maybe in distant 20-30 years if we look at leaps we've done since early 3D graphics in 90's till now and how it could potentially get to that point in about same time we needed from basic 3D to now. Plus, when stuff is "in the cloud" you can't run ReShade and apply your own effects (I love this thing and how dramatically it improves visuals of any game), game longevity is at mercy of stream provider (I love playing same games for 10 or even 20 years), you can't patch it (which affects longevity), mod it (do I need to explain it?), you can't do anything. It has its positives, but it also has so many negatives it's not something I'd like or want to rely on for daily gaming. But can understand for casuals who play the game once and forget about it.

That's not really a problem with Geforce Now, though, as it just uses your Steam/EGS/GOG/etc. libraries. Geforce Now doesn't maintain any game-library of its own, they don't sell games or anything like that.

As far as I understand, you should be able to use Steam Workshop - mods just fine, so that's still something.

As far as I understand, you should be able to use Steam Workshop - mods just fine, so that's still something.

That's only to confirm game ownership. You can't stream it offsite and then stream it back, that wouldn't make any sense at all.

It doesn’t seem to offer 2080ti performance though. 1080p @not so many fps.  Not sure how many

Not a pro, not even very good.  I’m just old and have time currently.  Assuming I know a lot about computers can be a mistake.

1h as in what? 1h per user forever? Or 1h per day/month??? If "free" allows a 1 per day, or even month, I'd give it a spin. :P

Look at Google. We outsource the web/multiplayer part. The crunch on the databases is outsourced... but the render (even webpages) is local. It's a truth of the matter. The distribution of cost/reliability/easy goes that way. Possibly if someone only plays online, has 100% internet up time, etc, we could all go thin client and rent the GPUs/CPUs... a bit like we do for internet/telephone infrastructure... as we only own the handset, not the entire bundle between users. :P

While cool for the technology, I was a Beta tester for Geforce now and good lord it sucked. On 100 Mbps internet it would constantly dip to 540p. Though I believe this may be due to the server's location being decently far away from me. The few times it was useable however it was pleasent. However I would have a concern about latency. As someone who's main game is heavily dependent FPS (Thanks GTAO) adding latency to the mix may cancel out any benifit id get from being able to play at a higher framerate.

1h per session. When the session is over, you can queue up for a new one right away. Basically, if there's room in the queue, you could play 24 hours a day for free just by doing 24 sessions.

Just tried it out, works great! Makes me quite excited for the future. :D

One complaint I have is about unsupported games: it seems to be random whether you're allowed to play an unsupported game on Steam or not.

You are comparing the cost of leasing a Honda civic to buying a Ferrari. You are not going to get the same experience with geforce now as you would a 2080 ti and if you were concerned about pricing then the 2080ti is not marketed for you. People dont buy the 2080ti for the value they buy it because it is the best just like people dont buy a Ferrari because it is a good value.

I've used the beta for a couple years now and even 2 years ago when I was playing Fortnite on a macbook air it was actually not bad at all. You could tell there was added latency but it honestly was not bad at all. I has connected to gigabit Ethernet too. On a 5 gigabit connection you couldn't tell the difference if it was local or not.

Can I just get over the internet nvidia shield with my own desktop?

I want to watch BENCHMARKS and know why it is not available for LiGNUx.

 

I tested it playing Quake Champions, and it is not for FPS.

 

My Gforce 750 Ti is twice as better as their performance.

 

And even it is good enough to play, it is not good enough to win.

they want to be THE service that every developer gives money to, even if the service is shit.

Cloud gaming seems to be one of those “we can all..most....get...there.. technologies.  Everyone is reaching.  The company that wins is often the one that reaches for a hold that isn’t there trusting it will be when their hand closes.  Apple both won and lost with this method.  The NEXT computer would have made it if removable storage hadn’t been tied up.  If NEXT had been able to get ahold of ZIPdrive technology, which it was more or less built around being able to use before it even existed, Apple probably wouldn’t exist and would be called NEXTcomputing.  As it was the guy who invented laser guided floppy tech (zip) thought a lot of himself as a business owner, and refused to run one into the other so NEXT went down clutching empty air.

 

The streaming services seem to be doing the same thing.  One after the other they reach out expecting a new comms tech to be there to take their weight.  And there will be a few splooshes.

Not a pro, not even very good.  I’m just old and have time currently.  Assuming I know a lot about computers can be a mistake.

Devs are going to give money if no one is using the service. Many of these services have existed over the years, all have pretty much failed. Most countries dont have the internet infrastructure to make this type of service work.

I have that, but it stopped working properly over the internet months ago for me when I try to connect through VPN

Hey everyone, I was a beta tester for ~2 years, and it has help up great. On my old computer, a low end surface pro 3, games held up fine, even on wifi. Getting on an ethernet connection is even better, but 5ghz wifi is still good. Glad to see its finally out of beta and im definitely going to buy it.

i like trains 🙂
