When to upgrade GTX 1080 (suggestions)

Dizz_Man

So i'm sitting here with a GTX 1080, nice, great card for running 1080p 144Hz ULTRA detail.

I'm planning on making the jump to 1440p 144hz, I don't have the monitor yet... Should I upgrade now? (There's currently a sale for a 2070S marked down from A$900 to A$700)

Orrrrrrr, wait to see what RTX 3000 brings us, slashed 2080 / 2080 TI prices?

Yes I want to play games with RTX on if possible, no I'm not a hardcore ****ing making tournament money off gaming at 360Hz, I play it for fun

3000 series will be out in like 6 months at most IMHO.

I'm in the same boat but I have a gtx 1070. I just upgraded my PC but left the old gpu and decided to wait for the new models. I have an AMD Ryzen 3900x and a 1440p Ultrawide monitor with 100 hz refresh rate. I tested borderlands 3 yesterday and got around 40-60 fps on high settings, so perfectly playable and good quality.

I couldn’t use a 1080 on any current or last gen games with a 1440p monitor. Even for fun, not when it’s that taxing.
If you want fancy ray tracing you should have already make the jump or wait for the next gen and hope they are affordable or grab a first gen rtx card.

wait till ampere series by Nvidia. The 2000 series isnt worth the jump unless you got the spare cash to do both. from 1080 to 2080 isnt big enough difference to warrant a $900 CAD upgrade IMO.

Checking out benchmarks right now.
Can get a 1080ti for 400 and have room for a new mic or shell out almost double for a 2080s. I’d like to turn up the settings in my game and still get great frames.
