Questionable EVGA Support

DogMetal

I bought the kids a 2060 from EVGA's B stock to save some money for Christmas.  I was hoping to blow them away as one likes flight sims.  It replaced a 1050Ti and I did a new install of W10 so no driver conflicts.  I made sure the rest of the system met system requirements and the install went fine, but within 5 minutes into the new OS the system hard-froze.  I rebooted and it again locked within 5 minutes, but this time corrupted the install.

I reinstalled a second time and again froze before even getting GeForce drivers on.  I put the old 1050 back into the system and everything was stable.  I contacted EVGA for a return.  Weeks later with no contact they charged a restocking fee.  I reached out and asked them to reconsider and they said no.  I was out almost $80 between shipping and restock on an 'already opened/returned' B stock card that barely made it past windows login.

I am bummed to loose the money out of my holiday budget and felt betrayed that I had been a fanboi of their products.  The system had an EVGA PSU and EVGA 1050Ti.  They kind of just tossed me aside over a restocking dispute; trying to discredit the issue.  I've worked with Asus (GPU) and Corsair (PSU) RMAs in the past and always had great experiences.

Anyways thanks for reading my story.  I'm going to look for a new brand or maybe go back to Asus.  I am willing to take suggestions.

You could try foxont the problem at hand for now. What is your psu, and how old is it? Does the card happen to have any visual damage?

Reminds me of my struggles with Seagate. I owned three of their infamous 3tb Barracuda drives from the early 2010's and every single one of them died just outside of the warranty period. I lost some very important data because at the time I didn't have the resources to backup 7-9tb worth of shit. I attempted to speak with their support team, but they require you provide them a serial number before speaking, and if that product is out of warranty they won't say a word unless you pay them $15... fuck that shit. I would later on have an issue with a Seagate 2tb external drive that was within warranty which they honored, however, they charged me $20 to send it back due to some California state tax garbage. Fuck Seagate and California. $20 to return a $60 drive. Never again Seagate.

I'm a bit surprised to hear you've had success with Asus support, because I've always considered them be my second worst experience (second only to Seagate, of course). But part of that stems from my horrible luck with every Asus product I've ever owned. Corsair, however, I agree is very good. I own many Corsair products and have recommended their stuff (especially PSU's) to friends. The only issue I had was two of my M65 gaming mice had the middle click stop working, which was a widely known issue. Despite being out of warranty, they took both of them back and replaced them with the M65 Pro RGB's. Take notes, Seagate.

For AMD GPU's I strongly recommend Sapphire cards, as I've had excellent success with their stuff. I've only owned one Nvidia GPU, my current one, which is from MSI and so far so good. I've owned other MSI products without an issue so I'd say they're a safe bet.

EVGA responded to you? WOW! The one time I ordered something from them and had a problem with how they overcharged for what turned out to be gross overpackaging of the order, they ignored every email I sent them until I got mad enough to send a final email saying I would never ever buy another EVGA product from them again since that would be kind of customer "service" I could expect from them. Hell will freeze over before I buy anyting EVGA again.

Btw, the order was for three tiny USB 3.0 header extension cables they shipped in an enormous box stuffed with air pillows. A small padded envelope would have almost been overkill. ?

Never had an issue with any of the bstock I’ve ordered. Only dealt with third party when it comes to consumer service though.

small chance of getting a lemon on b-stock, asus will probably do the same thing to you though, if you can charge-back do it, or otherwise buy through another retailer like newegg instead of directly ordering from a partner. I've had no problems with EVGA myself but this at least shows their policy on b-stocks.
