My First 3900X Build!

Mr Nobody

I just finished building my first PC. Originally I was going to go with a prebuilt, but after watching a ton of Linus' videos (as well as Jayztwocents and Bitwit), I figured I'd give building from scratch a shot. I'm glad I did.

The PC I replaced was a 2011 HP with an AMD chip with integrated graphics. That got a score of 375 on Cinebench R20, so it was obvious that the only place I could go was up. Building was a bit rough, as my original motherboard was DOA and wouldn't post. So I ended up tearing the build apart to order a replacement. So I guess this is my second PC build? ?

The specs are:

Ryzen 9 3900X

ASUS Rog Strix X570-E Gaming MB

G.Skill Trident Z Neo 32GB DDR4

EVGA GeForce RTX 2070 Super FTW3 Ultra+ GPU

Corsair RMx 1000 W Gold PSU

2 X Inland Premium 1TB M.2 NVME SSD (which clock WAY faster than they are rated)

Western Digital Black 4TB 7200RPM HDD

Samsung 860 Evo 250GB SSD Boot Drive

Corsair H150i Pro 360MM Cooler

9 X TT Riing Plus Premium Edition 120MM Fans (Which is my only regret, because cabling on these things SUCKS)

LG 34UC89G-B 166Hz Monitor

Creative Labs T30 Speakers

All in all it was a fun experience and I'm glad I did it. My cable management is terrible, but I managed to get the case closed. Gaming is way more enjoyable now, as this thing will take whatever I throw at it without even blinking. It went way over budget at around $4000 with all the accessories, but once I started picking parts I just couldn't convince myself to stop, lol. I haven't played around with overclocking it yet, but I expect to do so in the future.

Thank you so much to Linus for giving me the tools to make choices on how to build this, because I wouldn't have dared to do this otherwise.

It looks purdy ma!

Great rig!

But a 1000W PSU is kind of overkill innit? Haha.

PC Part Picker estimated the wattage at 529W. The GPU, according to this chart is recommended to be at least 750W. It's not out of the realm of reason to have a 1000W PSU in that scenario. It was also only another $30 over an 750W unit.

A work of art! Thanks for sharing :)

Cable mgt is harder than it looks; been there done that (i know the feeling of being just happy that the case closes).

Just keep an eye on that 12v cpu power cable; looks uncomfortably close to top fan (prolly just due to the angle of the camera but nevetheless).

Awesome and tastefull build (and envy the powerfull specs!).

No doubt youll enjoy this beast for many years to come!

Wow, good catch! Thank you! I had the case open just before I took these pics because I was adding another 1TB hard drive that I had taken out of my old PC, and that cable must have gotten shifted in the process. I just moved it back where it was supposed to be.
