Need A Display...4K or Ultrawide. Let’s Hear Your Thoughts!

BKK17

So I recently just finished my build and have been using a 4K TV as my display but I would like a monitor for my other place when I work out of town. I’ve found myself stuck between 4K

and 1440p Ultrawide. I’ve narrowed it down to 2 models and would like your thoughts on what you would recommend and why. Not overly concerned about the difference in response time as I don’t game competitively. But I’m thinking with the PG348Q I’ll have wasted FPS off the get-go, but a few years down the road it will slowly correct itself with the advancements in graphical fidelity. As for the PG27UQ, I do enjoy a crisp 4k image. Will the ppi be too much at 27” instead of 32”? The HDR is also a bonus and both have G Sync but I know full well I won’t get near it’s full use with a 4k resolution. If you have other monitors you feel deserve a glance please recommend.

Asus PG27UQ - 16:9 (2160p), IPS, 144Hz, HDR

$1,999.99 CAD

Asus PG348Q 21:9 (1440p), IPS, 100Hz

$1,299.99 CAD    Sale Price: $799.99

probably something like this.

brightness is higher on this board going to 400 nits instead of 300 nits to make colors pop more. 300 nits of the other ultrawide isnt that impressive.

would just avoid 4k as its too high graphical fidelity to run properly, and you dont really get all that much gain over 1440p.

Thanks for the info and recommendation. I did come across a LG 34GK950G-B. $520 off regular price, just very limited stock. Any chance someone has experience with this monitor?

I couldn't decide so I have an ultra wide rig(3840 X 1600) and a 4k rig. Both use 5ghz + i7 8086k and 2080 tis.

I went with a 3840 X 1600 ultrawide because my 3440 X 1440 looked like crap compared to my 4k display doing productivity. It was ok for games.

My 4k rig is plugged into a 55" LG OLED TV that is G-sync compatible and I use it like a monitor.

LG is coming out with a 48" version this year and if it passes reviews I will replace my 32" 4k 60hz monitor I have in one bedroom and the 1440p 144hz monitor I have in the other bedroom.  This make sense to me since both are used for gaming and TV viewing.

If I had to pick one it would be the TV since it is a lot better at TV viewing and it does a fantastic 1440p that I use for RTX games like Metro Exodus and Control keeping all frames over 60.

I have a 65” C9 at home but looking for something more portable to take wherever it is I’m working. I tend to work out of town for months at a time. Just so happens Best Buy has the PG348Q on sale for $799 this weekend so probably pick that up. But thanks for the advice ?
