Linus on Live Stream (I've been thinking of retiring)

Linus i've been watching you since day one. 
Man, i cant thank you enough. This hurts my heart, but at the same time i'm so happy for what you have acomplished through all these years.
It's incredible and you deserve all of it. Family goes first so take your time, and live your life!

I think there was a lot of stress in that video, and also anxiety, you clearly must be tired too.
Maybe its time to take a long vacation, Maybe its time to move on. Whatever the case, all the best for you.

I think this is what happens when your in the "thinking about" stage.  Typically you go back and forth, back and forth trying to come to a decision and that is what he appears to be doing.  I think most people go through this, hell I am going through this right now.  I have a pretty good job that I just started 9 months ago but already everything about the job has been turned topsy turvy and much of what I loved about the job has been changed.   Part of me wants to part ways with the corporate world and do something crazy like try my hand a day trading.  However, that is a huge change so off I go going back and forth, back and forth trying to figure out what I really want to do.  Overall it is pretty normal and something tells me he won't as much retire as find a new way to move forward.  I mean he has got some great people working for him that I like to watch just as much as I like to watch Linus himself so maybe the answer is just turning more over to other people so he can free himself up for his family and such.  Either way I feel he will get it figured out.

My information is that day trading isn’t actually a job.  It’s more like simple gambling disguised as a profession.

I doubt this was Linus' big reveal to his family and friends. I'm sure that he has taken these steps prior to this video and spoken extensively with Yvonne about it. This is -again- Linus preparing us, his viewership of possible upcoming changes.

I get that you should inform viewers if you are going to make changes, but here we have a video about how it might be changes in the future, but there might also not be any changes.

My point is, why not think things through before making an announcement and worrying your viewers?

Yeah, thanks for "preparing viewers" for these changes that might not even happen. Maybe you should actually think things through before making big announcements which might just be completely null and void? Wouldn't that be the smart, reasonable and good thing to do?

 

The cynical part of me is thinking "this might just be an attempt of Linus to boost his viewership and then he can just go 'lol I'm not retiring and I never lied because I only said I was THINKING of retiring'".

Hopefully he will retire soon. Not just for his own health's sake (if what he said in the video was true, which I want to believe) but also because if he doesn't retire I will probably let my cynical part win over and just think Linus is even more of a fruad than I already think. That he only made this video to try and get more views.

Meh. I view it as kind of a confessional.  A very YouTube thing to do.  It is what it is.  It isn’t like most of the stuff that gets posted here but it’s not out of range for the media type.  It is perhaps something you feel you lacked need-to-know on.  Me too perhaps.  A status update post maybe.  I’m good with it myself.

Well first of all, you're not using the word "cynical" correctly. I am already cynical because I question his motivation for posting that video before making any actual plans. Secondly, my intention was clearly not to get the attention of the LMG staff. I strongly advice you to read my post again if that's how you interpreted it.

The Linus I subscribed to retired when they moved to the warehouse. The videos were never the same. Higher production value doesn't mean better content. I would much rather watch 1 take Linus unboxings and reviews with Luke doing benchmarks cut into it than what they have now

There are a lot of arguments here for a 1.5 option.  There is such a thing as semi-retired.  It’s a standard thing in small business.  You work like mad getting it going, then once it is one steps back a bit give it the occasional nudge only if it needs it.  Owner gets older business runs better, eventually it needs no nudging at all or even runs better with no nudging.

I thought of that too but honestly, i don't think Linus is the type of person who could do that. 

He seems like a work-a-holic to me so if he cut down on his involvement it would probably not be long until he is back in this situation again.

To me it seems like just a way to get a bunch of views. Linus has said himself that he is addicted to monitoring the performance of other youtubers, so I am sure he noticed that when PewDiePie announced he was going to take a vacation, PewDiePie's views surged. So maybe Linus just want to get some extra views on his (monetized) video by making a big yet completely empty statement?

he didn't make a big video, he recorded himself in his house with a basic setup with zero F's about production value, he never said he was retiring literally anywhere, his title was "i'm thinking about retiring", the entire video he never says he's gonna retire, not even once, compare that to pew who said he was gonna delete his channel, this far from a click bait, he had to say i'm not retiring "right now" to the people who'd misinterpret to make clickbait topics, what else did he have to say? that he was retiring even though he's not? his entire video was about him thinking about retirement, which if you watch the video all the way through has been on his mind since he had his first kid. 

to get a bunch of views? really ? that was your take away from the video? if you watch the wan show in the last year you'd know he's stopped seeing the numbers of his video, he'd have done the same video if he had hit the 10 mil sub even before pew made the post about taking a break, get over yourself. 

extra monetized bucks ? you do realize the video was not sponsored right ? even if its regularly youtube monetized an extra mil views is not making him any more money than his older videos that he has to pull a stunt. he's not there yet.
