Can my pc run 1440p 144hz?

I am considering buying a new monitor for my setup as I am still using a 1080p 60hz monitor as I have been since I started pc gaming years ago and I was wondering if I could run games on a 1440p 144hz monitor or if I should just get a 1080p 144hz monitor.

 

My specs are gtx 1080 8gb, and a i7 7700k CPU @ 4.20GHz

 

I would be hoping to run games such as modern warfare which I currently get 100+ fps on maxed out settings.

You'll get close in some titles, in others not so much but as others have said you should OC the CPU and GPU.

Yeah it's not hard. Lots of good videos, watch a bunch to get familiar. A while back when I used my i7-6700k regularly I had a stable OC at 4.9GHz, ended up going down to 4.8GHz though for longevity and thermal reasons. You can easily achieve that with a decent cooler.

A 1080 will not get close to 144 frames is mw maxed out at 1440. Can barely do it at 1080p.

But will be ok at single player with those settings. Cpu will struggle at 1080p.
