Need CPU advise for new build

Hi all just need some help deciding on a new CPU as I am going to start a new build very soon my main use will be gaming and photo editing for my photography, the 2 I have been looking at are the Intel core i7 9700k and the AMD 3700x so if anyone has any ideas or suggestions that would be great.

Plus I haven't built a PC for about 4 years now.

How soon and what software will you use? Photoshop plays out significantly better on an Intel processor... but Intel's prices are bad right now and will only be fixed on their 10th Gen release in April.

right now in gaming the 9700 is slightly better. however, as more and more games will be capable of using more threads, the 3700x will surpass it.

what's more, the am4 platform is not dead yet, with ryzen 4000 cpus likely to use the same motherboards. so it's easy to upgrade in a year or two to the latest and greatest amd has to offer.

3700x is better than 9700k in photoshop

3700x has my vote...the CPU's are so close in many ways...but 3700x come with a cooler and 16 threads.  The 3700x seems more future proof too.  If you said you played FPS games at 144hz I'd lean toward the 9700k a smidge, but you didn't.

I'm not sure what monitor I will get yet I won't get a 1920 x 1080 as I will be doing photo editing on it and to be far 1080 is not good for that
