XB271HU wont go avove 60fps with hdmi 2.1 cable.

HeroT3

Hey Guys,

I'm having problems with my new XB271HU monitor by acer. It is supposed to support 2k resolution at 165hz. However, I cannot change the refresh rate past 60 fps. I am using an 8K HDMI cable which is advertised at displaying 2k resolution at 240hz. I have installed the required drivers and need some help. Thanks!

Go into to your mentors OSD and check in there to see if it’s capped at a certain Hz, as well verify in your advanced display settings in control panel that 165hz is selected.

Displayport is better here, so use that, IDK why you are trying hdmi.

I think you have to set a custom resolution to use that 165hz, as its technically a oc for the monitor.

G-Sync monitors are limited to 60 Hz over HDMI.

Oh Thanks!. Is there a display port cable that supports a higher refresh rate then 144 at 2k out there?

Yes. Your monitor is a 144Hz model, that should be able to OC to 165. Not a native 165Hz.

Yes, any DP cable certified for HBR2 or higher will work. Otherwise it will be capped at 85 Hz.

Your GPU doesnt have HDMI 2.1

It can only output 2.0 bandwidth.

As such the highest u can go using 10bit 444 sampling is 100hz at 2560x1440.

You should be able to hit 144hz using 8bit 444 though.

huh, what graphics cards do support that then. I would have thought that an RTX 2080 could support that.

None of the currently available cards have HDMI 2.1

Next gen cards coming this year should.

For the most part PC dont use HDMI, they use DP, DP has higher bandwidth and most/all monitors use DP.

HDMI is primarily for TV use, and TV untill recently didnt require higher bandwidth. Now with 4k 120hz available we need the extra bandwidth which is why they have gone to HDMI 2.1, but PC hardware is slightly behind.

Your DP cable needs to be a Dp 1.3 or 2.0 cable to have enough bandwidth for 165hz 10bit 444 2560x1440.

You 'should' be able to do 165hz using 8bit 444 2560x1440 with a DP 1.2 or higher cable however.

heres links to HDMI and DP bandwidth information.
