Preferred/best way to record audio from computer?

I want to know your favorite way to record some quality audio on windows 10. Looking for something that can make some quality recordings that won't leave me with some obscure files that I have to open with a niche program.

 

Currently, I think audacity seems to be the best. Any other contenders?

Audacity is my current pick. Though if you want to work more with audio files, got recommendation for paid software from a friend. Called GoldWave, price for lifetime license is some $45.
