Also: Does anyone even say "Surf the web" anymore? To me thats such a... late 90s thing.

It’s older than that I think.  Anyone? Me. So I guess yes.  I may not count though.  It really still is kind of surfing.  You hit a link  and there’s a new wall of stuff and you wind up someplace else.

Not a pro, not even very good.  I’m just old and have time currently.  Assuming I know a lot about computers can be a mistake.

If the Chromium Edge makes better use of system resources, I can see myself switching to it on my old laptop and maybe even on my 2ndary computer.

I heard the lightest weight browser atm is(was?) opera.

I have used it for a little while now and it still has some issues given its a beta. I like its new feature that makes it easy to create a "web app" for any website etc... As far as performance I would say based on what I have seen, without using any tools or software, it is in the same ballpark as plain chromium.

does this leave the old edge in place on your machine or replace it completely? I was hoping it would replace it so windows doesn't get fresh installed with 3 web browsers now lol

It feels more responsive, but in the HTML5 test its identical (something that is not surprising since it has the same underlying engine).

Well I'm getting the same HTML5 results between Chrome 79 and Edge 79 (which means they are both a tad behind old Edge). That being said it does seem to be loading pages faster and to be more responsive.
And yes, IE 11 is a horrendous piece of shit.

HTML5 results:

IE11:

Chrome 79:

Old Edge:

New Edge/Edge 79:

Then Firefox comes along and destroys all.

The old Edge will be replaced at the front user level. But the engine itself will actually remain for UWP apps that may use it... for now.

I think once Microsoft has a replacement and no more apps uses it, it will get axed out of the system.

The reason I used Edge was the Epub reader functionality lol, now that it's just another Chrome clone you might as well just use Google Chrome.

been using Edge Dev for quite some time now, honestly like it more than Chrome.

and if this replaces older edge, then i nolonger see a reason to use a browser to install another browser. because at this point im using edge to download edge..........

Sounds like your anti-virus is blocking the setup (or you are out of disk space)

So far very good, fast and responsive. It's a whole new slate for Edge now being Chromium based. It just go released and it's looking pretty great though. So in time with more polish and extra added/returned features it can end up quite awesome.
I'm mainly on Opera and Vivaldi but I'll use the new Edge in tandem though.

I already switched to Firefox fully across all my devices a few months back.  I'm not looking to install a new browser anytime soon.

Currently focusing on my video game collection.

It doesn't matter what you play games on, just play good games you enjoy.

I use new edge, chrome, firefox and opera.

I don't think the new edge will sway existing web browser user but I can see new user will less likely to download chrome when installing Windows and more people on other platform who want to use old Edge feature but with chrome performance.

I'm very interested and concerned to see if the hardware acceleration features from the old Edge have made the leap.  If not, that is a serious problem as it was the only browser that could handle advanced codecs properly on my laptop.  I'll update this post with findings when and if I get it.

Edit: update: https://linustechtips.com/main/profile/265114-ryan_vickers/?status=260228&type=status

TL;DR they actually did it, I can't believe it :D
