yes and no, better to get a smaller 500gb ssd for initial records because sometimes hard drives get a little too slow and corrupt the recording. Rarely happens but it's a possibility, the hard drive is better as a long term storage solution, like once you're done recording, move the file over.
 

Most 1080p game recordings are around 2gb per hour so size < speed.

they're all the same at the lower level you're intending to use them
