BIOS settings resetting after reboot.

Is she saving the bios settings? (F10 to save and restart?)

Sorry gotta ask, you never know. Always start simple.

Has she tried clearing the cmos, then apply OC settings?

Or is the overclocking failing?

IE: error, x o.c. blah blah resetting default values hit F1 to continue?

My friend just built a new computer. Her mobo is an ASUS ROG Strix Z390-E Gaming and each time she reboots, her BIOS settings reset to factory defaults. Changes such as DRAM frequency, Aura lighting changes, onboard CPU overclocks are resetting to their default values. Is this something a CMOS battery replacement could solve or would it require an RMA? We'd prefer to do the prior to avoid tearing apart her newly built PC. Any other ideas and suggestions are most welcome. Here is a list of her parts if it helps.

CPU: i7-9700k
RAM: 16GB (8x2) 3200MHz Corsair Vengeance RGB Pro

GPU: MSI 1660Ti (not sure what model though I doubt it makes a diff)

Storage and Boot Drive: Samsung 860 EVO 1TB

PSU: Corsair CX750M

No crashes as a result of the OC. And we can try clearing the CMOS. When I get around to showing her how to do it, I'll come back and update. We'll also try making small simple changes like aura lighting settings to see if they still change after a simple power on/off.

Start with the battery, change it with a new one.

If the problem is still there, then you have a Mobo issue that will probably need a replacement (RMA)

***UPDATE***

So what she failed to mention before I started this thread is that she also had Asus's AI Suite 3 installed on her computer. Her DRAM frequencies were not even adjusted as we had thought so they were not resetting. What had occurred was she had a BSOD due to a loose 8-Pin CPU power connector that caused her BIOS to default to last known boot settings which was before we XMP'd her RAM. What was resetting every call though was her onboard Aura lighting. And that is where my previos mention of the AI Suite comes in to play. It seems the settings on the software trump the settings in the BIOS. She did not have the lighting set to "Stealth Mode" in the AI Suite so each time she restarted or turned off her computer, it changed the setting within the BIOS. It seems it was pure ineptitude to begin with. Thanks for the time and suggestions from you both. :)
