Integrate or not to integrate

I'm getting a Dell XPS 15, but my question is, should I get the one with the 1650 for the extra power if I should need it for my engineering classes or should I get the regular one and just thunderbolt 3 a external gpu into it? Also, is the storage upgradeable on the XPS 15? Also how does the integrated gpu affect the battery life?

I have a laptop with a dedicated GPU and it's always turned off when I'm not using it, so it's quite power efficient. I'd recommend the one with the GPU, as it allows you to do so much more than if you had no GPU. :) A thunderbolt 3 external GPU enclosure is also unfortunately quite expensive.
