Well, if everything else works then my guess is the CPU is faulty.  Luckily, FX cpus are kinda cheap now.  Not that I would get one, but if you wanted to.

ok thanks for the help

hi, my Gigabyte GA-990FXA-UD3 motherboard keeps booting into BIOS and then shutting down and restarting. I have tried everything to try and fix this problem, i have replaced everything but the cpu and they all work in other systems. any help is useful.

thanks

Well, not a horrible PSU, so that rules out my one assumption.  It's possible it's thermals, a bad cpu, a bad board[unless you tested another CPU in it], but did you try removing the bios battery for a couple minutes to clear it?

i have done that many times and even tried clearing CMOS

Somehow I doubt the CPU itself is bad based on symptoms reported.

If a CPU is bad normally it won't even POST, you've got another problem going on here.

Sometimes when a board defaults to the BIOS it's not detecting a drive it can boot from, check connections to your HDD and make sure those are good.

Also, when you say it goes into the BIOS, how long does it take for reboot to occur after it gets into the BIOS?

Going from what I've ran into over time with AM3+ here.
