Can gtx 1070 handle 1440p 144-165 hz?

keavlar

Hey all.

I saw sometime ago that someone mentioned that 4790K with gtx 1070 might not handle 1440p monitor with 144hz refresh rate.

Is that true?

Did any one met this issue before?

Define "handle". Will a 1070 and a 4790k stay at a constant 144 hz in modern AAA titles at that resolution, no. But this is why adaptive refresh is so useful. Freesync/Gsync will keep it pretty smooth which is why this technology is so worth having.

I have a GTX 1080 and a 4.6 Ghz 6700k as a backup machine, the 1080 does 1999 core clock, and in most AAA games I get anywhere from 80-150 FPS, but I use a 165hz gsync monitor with it, so its a fantastic experience. With the 1070, you likely will have to run settings at medium or high, but not ultra, to keep games up over ~125fps. Hopefully this answer helps.

Depends on what you throw at it. Modern AAA games is a no no. Competitive games like LoL Dota2 CS GO will work fine.

A little.

Right now I am more interested in games like PUBG. HOS.

No, my 2080(1080 ti) can barely do 120fps on high. You’ll be lucky to do 144hz 1080p high on a 1070.

Forget about it. Those games will destroy GTX1070 at 1440p 144

i sold my 1070 and moved to a 1080ti for this exact reason.

moved from 1070 to 2070s for this exact reason too, my 1070 handled 1440p 60fps fine in AAA games but above 100fps was unheard of except in FPS games

You simply won't achieve any decent FPS in those games.

but with gsync, and all of that if you have between 70~90 fps, it will be still a decent gameplay? doesnt it? Not on ultra.

For me personally, after playing on 165Hz monitor and constant 120+ FPS, anything below 100FPS feels horrible. Even in Witcher 3.

Gsync helps with frame stutter, tearing, and super low fps situations when you couldn’t hit 60 before. It’s not a replacement for 100+ fps

Horrible idea. SLI is dead tech. If you want more power, get better GPU.
