MSI Laptops.... Any Good?

So I was wanting to buy a high end laptop from MSI and was wondering how do you feel about the build quality, customer support, battery life and recurring costs of getting a MSI laptop.

What recurring costs? The only recurring cost I'm aware of is electricity.

Battery-life is hugely dependent on the components, so that's a rather difficult one for anyone to say much about. Build-quality....well, from what I've seen, MSI's laptops are about the same as everyone else's in that regards. Never dealt with customer support, so can't say jack shit about that.

If you're talking the latest lineup (in general, gaming only, excluding those in CES) :

GF/GLx3/GS 8th gen: avoid

GLx5/GPx5: OKish

GPx3/GE/GS 9th gen: slightly better

GT: good

QC is still hit or miss though. Also hinge quality is still an issue

I am studying in Canada currently need to buy a laptop in a month or so. No budget limitations. Have a high end desktop so mainly needed for programming and minor gaming on the go. Battery life, build quality, thickness and service is a must. I am tilted towards buying a Mac 16inch because this is 99% for programming but I am still viewing my options before choosing the apple poison.

There is only 1 gaming laptop under 1.6kg: Tongfang GK5-Y aka Eluktronics Max-15. Battery life is limited though. Or you fine with lower end GPU?

OK then let's forget the weight limit too and keep the thickness as a limit not thicker than an alienware m15 but which can keep its processor cool

I personally like their GS series. But if you don't care about the size too much then I would look into Asus as well.

I find MSI they run way too hot. Hotter* (grain of salt)

If you want NEWER laptop then I would wait until this summer.

Tongfang QC7 aka Eluktronics Mag-15: no service center in Canada though

Gigabyte Aero 15 OLED / SA (newer model with noticeable 2 hinges, not the older model)

Not many thin and lights can cool well, unless you're fine with non thin and light
