Klipsch The Sixes vs ADAM Audio T5V/T7V speakers - recommendations

Marinatall_Ironside

Hello

I'm currently in the market for a pair of speakers to add to my new audio setup, which is a mixer (Mackie ProFX10v3 10-channel USB mixer). As much as I like my headphones, it'd be great to me to add a set of speakers for listening when I don't want to wear headphones.

I've been debating between the Klipsch The Sixes wireless speakers (usually USD $799/pair), or the ADAM Audio T7V studio monitor (USD $249/unit, so USD $498/pair). The third option is the ADAM Audio T5V, which is smaller than the T7V, and costs USD $199/unit (USD $398/pair). Both are powered speakers, and the intention is to hook them up to the main outputs of my mixer, either with XLR (studio monitors) or 1/4" to RCA (The Sixes) connectors. One has lots of connectivity options (USB, 3.5mm, TOSLINK, RCA, and Bluetooth) available, but HF and LF switches are nonexistent, while the other is limited in connectivity (only XLR (balanced) and one RCA (unbalanced) connections), with HF and LF switches to make integration with a subwoofer easier, along with flexible setup.

I've listened to the ADAM Audio speakers already at my local Guitar Center, and I can confidently say that I like them, even when compared to other monitors close to their price ranges. Plus, how do the Klipsch The Sixes sound (to those who have them already)? Would they make suitable studio monitors while being great to listen to? Or should I stick to studio monitors for the same reasons outlined in the previous question?

I'm looking for a second opinion is all I'm asking.

The Klipsch Sixes are pretty much guaranteed to not sound neutral. They're for home use mostly. Expect a dip in the mids. And the Sixes aren't that great of a deal anyways. You're better off spending ~$300 on an amp and another $200~$300 on speakers. There's no shortage of choice for speakers, but Q Acoustics are pretty damn impressive if you can score a used pair around $100 on eBay. Look for the 3010 or 3020...

You can also look for amp/speaker combo deals at hifi shops. I recently bought the Klipsch RP600M + Yamaha RN402 amp for 600 euros new (200 euros less than the Klipsch sixes).

Here's what I'd get:

Amp

Speakers

EDIT: The ELAC won't make good monitor speakers. The Klipsch Sixes neither. So you should probably get proper monitors if you want to use them on your desk.

If you are actually going to be making music, grab the T7V's, If you want to enjoy/consume music, get the T5V's, or the klipsch sixes.

As you have a mixer with XLR, I would get the T5V's.

LTT's Resident Porsche fanboy and nutjob Audiophile.

Main speaker setup is now;

Mini DSP SHD Studio -> 2x Mola Mola Tambaqui DAC's (fed by AES/EBU, one feeds the left sub and main, the other feeds the right side) -> 2x Neumann KH420 + 2x Neumann KH870

(Having a totally seperate DAC for each channel is game changing for sound quality)

So I've made up my mind. Given the small room dimensions (my room is 10' x 12', and is a bedroom with all the typical bed furnishings, along with my computer), I'll be going with the ADAM Audio T5V monitors, and eventually add in the T10S subwoofer, since studio monitors can only go so low in terms of low-frequency response. I won't be purchasing them right away. I'll be sitting on it, contemplating the purchase decision.

Setup will involve the rearrangement of the room to make way for the monitors to be properly set up and dialed in.

I really like the ADAM Audio studio monitors; the clarity and punch they offer I feel is better than other competing offerings, like the Yamaha HS line of monitors, which to me, sound dull.
