Over_Confident

By upgrade I mean: Changing one pc components no matter what it is by a better one(Not adding a new component)

Just a quick question because I was wondering

Well for me it depends on my budget.  So far the only thing I upgraded was my Memory Card Reader.  Since my Vantec one died a few days ago.

Only if I can double a components speed for a reasonable price. not interested in small % upgrades.

Main reason for me not upgrading my 10 year old motherboard is due to the cost of having to double it's speed.

Constantly lol, but I sell what I was using at a slight profit/slight loss so I'm just recycling the same 2 grand over and over again.  I burnt out in 2019 though, so now I've decided to stick with the ol' 6950x until an i3 equivalent can beat it

Since I am chasing resolution and frames I upgrade as soon as possible.

Even though I tried to get away from 4k by having my main gaming PC on an ultra wide I bought a 4k TV last black Friday and now I am back on it.

It is like a drug and I am addicted so I won't stop until I can do 4k with all frames over 120. Then It will be 4k ultrawide so it will probably never end.

To be fair, if you need a new mobo because you need a new CPU that's twice as fast as your old CPU you kinda don't have a choice...

And besides RAM and bus speeds a mobo doesn't necessarily speed things up anyways.

Point is new mobo (+CPU) = double speed!

No new mobo (+ no new CPU) = no double speed!  :(

Honestly when I first started building (5ish years ago) it was every few months, either something changed or added. But now, I'm happy with what I've got and turned off by high end gpu prices. I do have a slight itch to upgrade platforms but gonna see how next gen turns out.

Main PC CPU: 7700K, MOBO: Asus Strix, GPU: Aorus Extreme 3080, PSU: EVGA Supernova G2 750, RAM: Corsair Vengeance 16GB Storage: 970 Evo 1tb

Lounge PC CPU: 4790K MOBO: Asus Hero VII GPU: EVGA 3060 Ti PSU: Corsair RM650 RAM: Kingston HyperX 16gb Storage: 970 Evo 1TB

New tech doesn't even come out fast enough for that lol.  Feel free to upgrade as much as your budget/heart desires, there's no real downside other than cost

Basically for me it's little as I can.  Or when my PC dies completely then that's when I move to a better motherboard and CPU

Intel Pentium 4 2003~2010

AM3 (AMD Althon x2 250 & AMD Phenom x4 945) - 2010~2018

AMD Ryzen 5 1600 2018~2020

Intel i5 Laptop 2015~2020

Way to often. I upgraded my PC in February last year.By June I had talked myself into building an entirely new PC from Scratch so that I could go SFF. And I've upgraded that twice since then. You really don't need to do it this often, but I enjoy finding Ways to squeeze a little more out of my system without it getting bigger, louder or hotter. More expensive on the other hand, I struggle to stop.

RAM - all the time, MoBo and CPU after 2-4 years.

GPU lately about after 5 months, not an upgrade always.

I edit my posts more often than not

Probably within 3 years.

Although I just upgraded my 8700k to a Threadripper 3960X, so maybe I'll keep that for longer than 3 years. Maybe.

When I get bored and have available mons, lol. I've ran a bunch of hardware just for the sake of mucking around with it, very little rhyme or reason to it. Like @Damascus said, there's no downsides so long as you can afford it and are having fun. ?
