Made an account just to say this. I don't necessarily care about the drawing but I'll be a part of it anyways. Just for fun. Anyways, main admin of https://www.facebook.com/Voldemortwithoutanoseface a FB Page with over 58K likes and I'm going to share you video. I enjoy lurking on this site/watching your guys stuff so I'll help you out.

When will we know who won and in what format will the winners be announced?

Competition closes Feb 28th so I would guess somewhere between mid to late March we will find out who won and given the size of the giveaway probably a video release with all of the prizes shown off and winners names shown off. Winners will probably also be contacted via email for the #2 or #3 giveaways.

I wish to raise some legality concerns over contests #2/#3,

as originally raised by Scott Manley (The awesome space game youtuber)

He first raised the legality issue for the US https://twitter.com/DJSnM/status/433743819834527744
That would be "Short version - if you 'pay' to enter a draw it's a lottery - Promotion/advertising can be considered a payment." https://twitter.com/DJSnM/status/433744884487307264

As outlined by http://www.socialmediaexaminer.com/social-media-promotions-and-the-law-what-you-need-to-know/

I point out that of course Linus  is based in Canada for which Scott did a little more digging, and pulled up:

This: http://contests.about.com/od/sweepstakes101/f/caskillquestion.htm https://twitter.com/DJSnM/status/433747221360558080

TL;DR US considers promotion/advertising through a third party payment, and Canada requires some form of skill be involved in entering such closed access sweepstakes that include a payment, that is if the promotion/advertising classes as payment in Canada

I've done tons of giveaways like this (never won anything) on YouTube why would Linus's be any different.

I would argue that #2 and #3 have skill involved, the skill of wording respectably and in a non pushy manner a request for sharing. But again if that counts then of course so would liking a video as that is a form of advertisement or promotion. Pretty sure there is no need to worry. Canada is a lovely place and I'm sure no one in Canada will mind. Eh? :P

Luckily the USA should be unable to get involved as they are less lovely and have a tendency for more OTT unwarranted action.

Linus has addressed the issue now, anyway, everything should be fine.
