KF or K?

DrCanada
Go to solution Solved by 3 Lions,

Why would you go from a 6C/12T to a 6C/6T?

I want to get an i5 9600k down the line to upgrade from my r5 2600 but I saw that an i5 9600kf is less expensive and has the same features. Is there any big difference between the two apart from the lack of integrated graphics on the ke chip?

You realize to do this you'd need to get a new motherboard. Imo just get a higher end Ryzen chip like a 2700X or something from the 3000 series, that way you can keep your existing motherboard.

Specs: CPU - Intel i7 8700K @ 5GHz | GPU - Gigabyte GTX 970 G1 Gaming | Motherboard - ASUS Strix Z370-G WIFI AC | RAM - XPG Gammix DDR4-3000MHz 32GB (2x16GB) | Main Drive - Samsung 850 Evo 500GB M.2 | Other Drives - 7TB/3 Drives | CPU Cooler - Corsair H100i Pro | Case - Fractal Design Define C Mini TG | Power Supply - EVGA G3 850W

Why not upgrade to a 3600? you probably won't have to get a new mobo too.

Specs: CPU: AMD Ryzen R7 3700X @4.4Ghz, GPU: Gigabyte RX 5700 XT, RAM: 32 GB (2x 8GB Trident Z Royal + 2x 8GB TForce Vulkan Z) @3000Mhz, Motherboard: ASRock B550m Steel Legend, Storage: 1x WD Black 1Tb NVMe (boot) + 1x Samsung 860 QVO 1Tb SSD (storage), Case: Thermaltake Core V21, Cooler: Noctua NH-D15

That’s the sole difference. “Kf” CPUs are Intel’s way of selling defective GPU silicon. They just disable the GPU and most people won’t care since enthusiasts tend not to use integrated graphics anyways.

Also so agree that you won’t benefit much from a 9600k here. Wait for 2020 CPUs, at the very least.

I think that’s what I’m going to do
