R5 3600 enough for RTX 2080 Ti?

prezz122

Hello

Is the Ryzen 5 3600 CPU strong/good enough for the mighty RTX 2080 Ti?

Thanks in advance

Yes it should be enough. But it doesn't make since to pair a 200$ CPU with a 1000$ GPU. I would go with a Ryzen 7 3700X.

Doesn't make sense for gaming since the gaming potential of the 3600 is the same as the 3700X

If one wants to favour gaming without ever bottlenecking the 2080 Ti then you need to aim for the 9700K and 9900(KFS)

Depends on resolution. Higher resolution means the GPU is loaded more. If running 1440p or higher it should be fine.

Depends on game too, most games run basically the same on 3600 and 3700X though. 3600 should be completely fine tbh

I'd save a bunch of money on a RTX 2080 Super if the Ryzen 5 3600 is to be used, since you'll be wasting the further potential of the 2080 Ti using this processor... even at 1440p:

A few FPS more for x4 the price and I don't think it makes sense.

Picking the only title that looks like that is a bit unfair.

The other games tested at 1440p ultra:

It's pretty clear that most titles show a pretty small difference, and for the most part it is the difference between 200 vs 190 fps, so it doesn't really matter that much.

But at 1080p Ultra it is correct that the CPU becomes more important, and it becomes even more clear at 1080p Medium:

Maybe, then again the point remains... builds should be balanced and the 1200+ USD GPU with a sub 200$ CPU is a wasted potential... would still insist on the 2080S or 2070S for a 3600 as maximum it makes sense pairing wise.

I agree with that, but for 4K gaming for example that would be good enough, without knowing what is going to be played and at which resolution, recommending other CPUs might make a huge difference at lower resolutions or none at all at higher ones, so it becomes just guessing.

Having a bottleneck is acceptable if you get enough frames and don't end up spending buckets of money for less than 10% improvement.

That RTX2080ti card has been out for almost 2 years now and it'll feel like a weak bitch within a year or 2 when new games and new consoles come out...so I wouldn't mind pairing it with a cheap rysen cpu...the cpu will long outlive this card anyways.

Don't buy a 2080ti it's a bad timing...waste of ?

The card wasn't even that powerful to begin with and now it's old and plenty of games it can't even maxout at 1440p and it's still over 1000$ ...it's stupid.

How exactly will a 2080ti feel like a weak bitch compared to the next generation of consoles.. When its already more powerful than the hardware that's used in the next generation. And even with closed ecosystem optimization it won't account for the lack of performance..

And wasn't even that powerful to start with??.. I mean it was at minimum 30% faster than anything else avaliable at launch.. And lastly.. Cant max out games at 1440p?? Please tell me one game that this will not drive at a playable frame rate at 1440p?? And if it can't nothing else can.. So you point is null and void regardless. Thats like saying buying a ferrari is pointless because it can't do 1000mph.. Like anything else can.

21,000 posts and all you've given here is opinionated and factless bullshit. Man the other posts must have been informative..

Op I've got a 2700x paired with a 2080ti and have had zero bottle necks. I game at 1440p so there's a decrease in cpu bottleneck potential as the gpu will always be the weaker link the higher resolution you go.

A 3600 is about 15% more powerful single thread than a 2700x so you will have an even better gaming experience.

Yes, it's good enough, but don't buy a 2080Ti new right now, we're too close to third gen. No point in spending flagship money on something that'll be replaced by something costing half the price.

Barely a year...

Saying it'll feel weak is simply incorrect. It's still a beast of a card. It's the most powerful card currently available by a wide margin.

There will be a cpu bottleneck, but not a big one if you plan to upgrade the cpu somewhere down the line

+ the fact that the 2080 ti has been out for 15months with a definite release date for next gen in 6-9 months makes this a very weird build for the cost and timing.

I'm playing on 1440p 144hz. My budget is around 2500$.

Maybe I should wait for the new line up of GPUs? idk
