Steam crashing upon starting up

Hey, I have a couple of computers in the house and want to run steam on a core 2 quad, 6gb ram and an amd radeon hd 4670 (with 7200rpm HDD), but it always stops responding upon start, can i fix this somehow?

(The issue might be that i have over 6000 games on steam)

 

I suppose running the library off an ssd could help?
