Remote into friend's PC

My friend lives an hour away and her PC got infected and I was going to remote into her PC with my spare laptop and try to fix it. It's a browser hijacker. It's only on Microsoft Edge and I put Chrome on there and Chrome works fine but she hates Chrome. Is there a better and easier app besides the built in Windows Remote Desktop that lets me remote into her PC? I would prefer something that automatically opens ports because she's not computer savvy so having her open ports on her own might be difficult. 

 

I'm not too worried about it coming to my PC so I don't need to be very secure about it. My laptop is old and I can just reinstall Windows if I get infected. I'm also going to disconnect all other electronics from my Wifi during this just to be more secure.

no its just clicking 4 buttons and sending you her ID and password. You use those credentials to connect to her computer and thats it.

Edge is a chromium browser.  Might need to get over this hurdle before you bother fixing anything.  Why would they use something they hate?

Awesome. I already have her credentials because I'm the one who set up her computer for her. I figure I'll just uninstall and reinstall Edge and then run a Malwarebytes sweep

She actually loves Microsoft Edge because she says it's easier to navigate. I might fix up Chrome with extensions though to make that easier for her to switch over.

Actually teamviewer has its own credentials. You have to have those to connect. Teamviewer is a total RDP replacement, meaning you also have to use teamviewer to connect to her computer.

Yeah I'm going to have her download it from Chrome tonight and we're going to use it. I just downloaded it and it seems VERY user friendly.

I use edge for streams cause it's actually more stable than the current build of firefox. Firefox has been downhill since 2012..

Try Remote Utilities for windows. It's a portable application so no insulation is needed. All she has to do is run it and provide you with the ID number that you enter into your copy running on your computer. It's much easier than teamviewer.

Except for some streams, because it locks up after a few minutes.  It's hysterical how someone can report personal experience that can go back as far as netscape, and have someone be all like nah. Way back when in the year 2012: you'd have a better chance being allowed that download on internet explorer after a crappy firefox update. Not that anyone should use IE. But ok..................................

+1 vote for teamviewer. Very easy and security is pretty good.

Instructions for frustration management:  

1) Sit at desk.   2) Repeatedly slam forehead against desk.

In 2019 Firefox is fine and I prefer it over google chrome and Edge, but they all have had there problems.

 

Sometimes different users  have different experiences.
