Motherboard VRM Tier List v2 (currently AMD only)

Cool, thanks. What's so bad about it? It's the only board in my price range that seems to have decent VRMs, 2 M.2 SSD slots and support for a 16x, 8x, and a 1x card (which I use daily) It's why I got the B450m Pro4 but it just crapped itself so a replacement is necessary.

Lacking rear I/O just like all other cheaper boards, Asrock has a low memory voltage cap on low end B450 boards which could carry over to B550. Also, worse BIOS update frequency

Thankfully the first 2 don't really affect me and while I'm not a big fan of the 3rd I can live with it, thanks for the info :)

I have too many computers. List here.

How would you rate the brands?

In the Netherlands everyone is always talking/picking MSI boards.

How is Gigabyte rated overall? (since I'm going for the Gigabyte B450M S2H (rev. 1.0))

rated for what?

MSI's strength is VRM and memory overclocking, not lowest price for an acceptable board which is what you asked for.

nono, i meant rated for quality, good material use that lasts and overall an history of "good" products.

like when you said you could go with Biostar, but its a gamble.

If going Biostar is a risky gamble, then Asus MSI Gigabyte and Asrock are safe gambles. They all have enough faults over the years that none can be said "the most reliable choice", but few enough to still recommend.

Can anyone explain what does the description of the tier means?

If I'm getting 3600, do I get something from tier E? Or its better to get a higher tier mobo?

Tier E is minimum, you could go higher if there's something else you want from it but lower tier boards don't have (like Wifi or overclocking capability or debug features)

Will the performance increase if I go higher?

For example, ryzen 5 3600 with msi b450m mortar max vs asrock b450m pro4.

I don't really do overclocking. Just a casual user. Would it be worth it to get a better mobo?

Yes but there's only so much it would go, say tier E to D then maybe 100MHz but not more at higher tiers.

Thank you and sorry for my bad grammar english.

Tier D. There is Gaming name in both tiers but only one is listed behind B450 chipset

I like the Asus b550 TUF gaming. It has an oldschool feel with the seperate io shield and different colored dimm slots and seems to be good value.

What about the MATX version of Pro4?It get the same VRM as the ATX version but only 8 pin cpu connector(weird?).

I'm trying to figure out if it's possible to handle a 3900x

Anything more than the EPS 8pin is useless on AM4 regardless of CPU unless you do extreme overclocking

It doesnt leave extra headroom for 3900x but it could do, just run it stock if not undervolt.

Is that means I'd better go for the steellegend?(But that one looks quite ugly for me

I found a video shows that previous B450m steellegend could handle 3900x at 4.2ghz with slightly high temprature.

So how's B550m pro4 compare to that one?

I have a decent cooling solution.

Asrock is not the only brand in the market
