i9 9900k vs i7 9700k for 240hz gaming

How much better is the i9 vs the i7 9700k for 240hz gaming? I play at low settings to maximize fps and the cpu becomes more important to squeeze all the fps out of my gpu.

Ahh thanks. Is it worth upgrading from an i7 4790 to an i7 9700k?

Because a 9700k is not that different to a 9900k when both OCed to 5GHz while gaming.

Yeah, I plan to OC. Sounds like the i7 9700k is a much better value so that sounds like the right route to take.

It depends on the silicon lottery.

High frame rate games don't usually use many cores so the strongest cores wins.

 

I run two i7 8060k CPUs and have access to a i9 9900k overclocked to 5ghz on all cores for testing. 

One of my i7 8086ks can beat the i9 every time but the other never wins against the i9. That one is overclocked to 5.1ghz just to stay close enough.

 

My "good" i7 8086k has the same core strength as a i9 9900ks so no upgrade for me unless in need the 2 extra cores. 

 

I would never buy a i7 9700k because I don't want to rely on luck to get a good experience.

I already did that with my under performing i7 8700k and I don't want to experience that again.

 

Even my under performing i7 8700k had no issues in high frame rate tests with a GTX 1080 ti. It is only when I upgraded to a RTX 2080 ti that the performance fell apart compared to my i7 8086k.  

 

If you are not going totally high end on a GPU it may not matter at all which one you get.
