Should I get the RX 5700 or the 1660 Super?

weeblord

This is my build that I'm planning to save for, but I have the budget to go a little bit higher and get the 5700 if i wanted to. Should I? If so, then from what maker? (definitely not the msi evoke)

My Build (5800X3D, RTX 3070)

disclaimer: i probably don't know what I'm talking about but I try to give the best advice I can

The cheapest, aka XFX DD Ultra, not that great but better coolers aren't really worth $30~60 price premium over it.

RX 5700 wins by a comfortable margin

....but is it worth the ~$75 cost over a decent 1660 super card?

I also have a monitor that supports freesync if that influences anything.

Nvidia cards work on Freesync too, now, so that's not really an issue anymore.

RX 5700 is a solid 25% or so faster. It's also a solid 25% or so more expensive. Neither card is a bad deal, really, it's just more about what your budget is able to fit. Personally, I'd buy the best card you can reasonably afford because I've never regretted having a faster GPU.

AMD Ryzen 7 3700X | Thermalright Le Grand Macho RT | ASUS ROG Strix X470-F | 16GB G.Skill Trident Z RGB @3400MHz | EVGA RTX 2080S XC Ultra | EVGA GQ 650 | HP EX920 1TB / Crucial MX500 500GB / Samsung Spinpoint 1TB | Cooler Master H500M

Only you can know that, check benchmarks on various sites and decide it. Check the games you play, the resolution and setting that you want to use(and what you would want to use in the period that you will own the card) and pick the card that will match the performance that you (will) need.

Personally going by US prices the cheapest 1660S that I would consider is the EVGA SC Ultra for $240 while the cheapest 5700 i would consider is the XFX for $300.
