A liquid nitrogen-cooled AMD Ryzen 9 3900x has just set a new overclocking world record in the wPrime benchmark, beating the previous title holder, the Intel Core i9-7920X.

The feat was performed by Australian overclocker jordan.hyde99, who got the AMD Ryzen 9 3900X to reach 5.63 GHz to complete the tests in just 35 seconds and 517 milliseconds. Beating the 35 seconds and 693 milliseconds of the i9-7920x.

 

I mean I can just imagine what AMD is cooking for us when it comes to future CPU generations.

 

That i9 9900KF crown is in danger and I love it!!

The difference in clock speed is kind of interesting (though the Intel chip is a little older)

 

Would like to see a single-core performance comparison with their newer chips at these clocks

^ Yeah. IIRC the 7920X took the crown back again though, but they had to push one to around 6Ghz (might've been a bit higher?) to pass the 3900X score.

They covered it on techquickie, the 3900X was beaten by a 9920X

 

Which, after a quick Google search, seems it was recently passed once again by a 3900X. These records are flying by.

I've no idea on the background why this one particular benchmark is a battlefield right now.

At link above are the 12 core records. At time of writing, 9920X takes the gold now at 6.1 GHz, 3900X takes silver and bronze, with another 9920X sandwiching them in. Below that are a mix of 7920X and even more 3900X CPUs.

 

That Zen 2 has higher IPC than Skylake (in most cases) has been known since July if not earlier so why is it even newsworthy today?

 

BTW as the bench is multi-core, if we take away core count limits, the 32 core 3970X is running away with it at the top, beating out the 28 core Xeon W3175X.

 

 

I hope to see some more y-cruncher 1b subs at 12 cores. I'm in 2nd place with a 7920X run on air! I'm not extreme enough to go LN2 yet but I hope to put a chiller on it before the year is out.

who knows with the way things are going, but its not a realistic build, its a waste of money, a waste of time.
