Deciding on a mid-level AM4 build with 2700x

WRX1309

Hi! I'm currently on Athlon x4 840, 16 Gb DDR3, GTX 750 Ti. Generally it's enough for my needs, but I'd like to build something that performs well enough to last a few years (to better perform in modern games, at 1920x1080, medium/high-ish settings; maybe do some encoding work, ). Looking for your advice if my choice is okay:

Current selection:

CPU: Ryzen 2700x Box Version (pretty much my final choice) (~223 dollars)

Mobo: ASUS TUF B450M-PLUS GAMING (~97 dollars)

CPU Cooler: Wraith Prism (comes with CPU)

CRUCIAL Ballistix Sport LT BLS4K8G4D30AESBK DDR4 (4 x 8 GB DDR4 modules) (~169 dollars)

GPU: which one would you recommend? (Nvidia only, 230 bucks or lower, preferably without additional power connector)

Case: ZALMAN Z3 Plus (~55 dollars)

PSU: repurposed almost new THERMALTAKE Smart RGB 500 from my current build

Storage 1 (file dump): repurposed SATA SSD

Storage 2 (system): A-DATA XPG SX6000 Lite ASX6000LNP-256GT-C (~42 dollars)

Total cost: ~541 dollars

Is this mobo good enough for 2700x? Or do I need something like ASUS ROG STRIX B450-F GAMING?

Is PSU enough for 2700x?

No overclocking is planned, I'm fine with stocks. At most - I'm gonna try setting highest certified memory for RAM if it starts on lower by default

Msi b450 boards are better than the asus one. Try the tomahawk, a pro or gaming plus.

For gpu, i'd go for 1660 super.

2x8gb ram are enough for gaming for the foreseeable future. You can always add more when you need it and it will probably be even cheaper in a few years.

I'd replace the psu and get a cx or txm from corsair

The best GPU you can get without a PCIE power connector is likely going to be a GTX 1650

Then you need Zen 2 CPU like R5 3600\R7 3700X, but you'll be okay with R5 2600 too for lower price

And you don't need 32GB RAM for that.

No, it's massive upgrade, it's just that R5 3600 that costs the same will perform better in games.

Agree with R5 3600 over the 2600x. And I don't get the choice for graphics, without PCIe-power?! Save some money to bump it into the graphics card, seriously. Have a look at the 1660 Super, for instance. Not too shabby, isn't it?

If costs do matter: Is there a special reason for 4x8gb instead of 2x8, besides 32gb sounds cooler than just 16gb?

The mainboard is fine but it seems to be a tad expensive. And: wouldn't MSI or Asrock suit the bill as well?

I have bad history with ASRock. MSI, according to reviews, is also questionable. I also wanted white build (on 1151v2, i5, alternative to this one i posted here), and both MSI white boards listed locally have low ratings on newegg

MSI has the best VRMs for budget B450 across the board. Go for them. Something like a B450-A Pro or B450M Gaming Plus would do.

Change out the PSU for something better, that thing is pretty..... questionable in quality.
