$200 Phone (US,Verizon) for my mother

TVwazhere

Shopping for my mother who currently has a Samsung J7

  • 5.5" 720p display
  • Snapdragon 615
  • 13mp rear/5mp front
  • 3000mah battery (removable)

Her phone has been acting up, and she's had it for three years so I think it's time for a new one.

Critical:

  • Verizon compatible

Serious wants:

  • 1080p display
  • Better cameras (she doesnt take MANY photos, but her J7 photos are washed out and grainy)
  • Micro SD expansion
  • Sizable battery (3500-4000mah)
  • New (meaning not preowned or used. Past flagships or older mid ranges are fine)

Nice to haves but not necessary:

  • USB-C
  • Fast charge
  • 6"+ screen size
  • 4gb+ RAM
  • AMOLED or other IPS display technologies
  • Large internal storage (64gb+)
  • Wireless charging
  • Removable battery (yeah... right...)
  • Fingerprint reader
  • Amazon Prime

Non factors:

  • Headphone jack (she does not use headphones at all)
  • Notches
  • NFC

I've seen suggestions such at the Nokia 7.1 which looked promising, but recent reviews noted a weak USB-C port which made charging difficult if not impossible in some cases. The Samsung A20 is mostly a side grade with it's 720p display. I wanted to go with a Xiaomi Redmi Note 8 Pro at $216 but it's not Verizon Compatible :(

At best buy I can get it for $100 wen activated (and it doenst look like an "add in line") Worst comes to worse, it's unlocked there for $150 or $175 on amazon for the 32gb model that's free of Amazon Alexa malware features

The 64GB version ticked more boxes. Both with size and battery capacity, as it comes with the Moto battery mod. It's $229. They had a good deal on the Z3 as well (discount plus a free G6) but I think it's sold out.

This one? The battery pack looks nice, but the regular phone still shows the 3000mah battery, so for the $70 price difference, I could get her a 128gb micro SD, a case and maybe a screen protector (plus all that means she has more items to open up for Christmas ;))

Haha, true. Just make sure you get her a case or some of the back covers, as the phone basically needs them to feel normal.

You get 2 free if you order from Motorola (or a free case), so that might be worth factoring into the equation as well.

I just picked up mine yesterday. Nice device.

I went to best buy, turns out they were able to get me the Samsung A50 for $225, so I ended up with that. The guy was super helpful, as I technically activated the phone, then deactivated it and re-activated her old phone so all I need to do is give it to her on Christmas, call verizon and have them switch the active phone back to the new one (The SIM card was not compatible between the J7 and any of the phones I was seriously considering.) The A50 also seems to have more case options which is good.

Thank you for your help!!
