Issues with WIFI 6

Chrismantle

I know the title is really condensed, for which I apologize!

I recently got a new RT-AX88U WiFi 6 router from ASUS. I currently have three WiFi capable devices - a desktop computer with a built in WiFi 6 receiver, a laptop with a Intel Ax200 WiFi card and an iPhone 11 Pro.

on the two first devices, I’m able to connect on WiFi 6, with much higher speed, but on my iPhone, when connecting I only get around 150 mbps, while if it’s connected to my crappy ISP-provided router, I get 400+ mbps. This indicates that something is really off between the new router and my iPhone.

My 5ghz band has a separate ssid, so I’m absolutely sure I’m connected to the right band.

Have anyone encountered anything similar to this?

How are you testing the speed?

I can hit 600Mbit on WiFi 5 on my Galaxy S10 or AX200 laptop to my NAS.

You can also try resetting network settings on the iPhone which I believe is at Settings > General > Reset and tap on Reset Network Settings.

Router:  Intel N100 (pfSense) WiFi6: Zyxel NWA210AX (1.7Gbit peak at 160Mhz)
WiFi5: Ubiquiti NanoHD OpenWRT (~500Mbit at 80Mhz) Switches: Netgear MS510TXUP, MS510TXPP, GS110EMX
ISPs: Zen Full Fibre 900 (~930Mbit down, 115Mbit up) + Three 5G (~800Mbit down, 115Mbit up)
Upgrading Laptop/Desktop CNVIo WiFi 5 cards to PCIe WiFi6e/7
