Rog Strix B450 Motherboard BIOS update

Hello, so I needed some help updating the bios on this motherboard https://www.bestbuy.com/site/asus-rog-strix-b450-f-gaming-socket-am4-usb-3-1-gen-2-amd-motherboard-with-led-lighting/6311234.p?skuId=6311234, will I need anything more then to boot the completed system up and perform the update to make it 3rd gen Ryzen compatible?

If the BIOS is out of date prior to 3rd gen you will need a older 2nd or 1st gen CPU to perform the bios update.

 

This board doesn't support BIOS Flashback.

How do I know if the bios is out of date for 3rd gen ryzen?

It won’t boot with a 3rd gen chip.

Depends, do you already own an old AMD processor or are you switching from Intel? Depending when your board was manifactured, it should come with the latest bios and be able to at least boot up with the 3rd Gen so you can update the bios. If it's an old board, you'll need an old AMD CPU that the board support so you can boot to the bios, if you don't want to do that, you can always bring the board to a computer shop and they'll do it for you. I had the same questionning by buying a X470 Pro from asus but mine came with the BIOS that supported the 3rd gen so I just needed to update it.
