Wiping only ssd in my computer

i am returning an ssd i got on amazon and am wondering if

A. is it even necessary to wipe it? other than a few accounts such as: google, steam etc. and B. if i am going to wipe it, how would i go about this seeing as it's the only drive in my computer?

yes wipe if anything that has a connection to your bank info was on it.
if you're going to wipe it and it's your only drive, you can start the windows installation process and delete the drive and just not finish the installation

@dizmo if the company failed to properly advertise that it was not a nvme, then it's on the company, every retail store I've worked at offered returns for mistaken purchases because that's what quality customer service is, and it's what brings back a customer who may not have returned if you didn't offer that option

just grab whatever you used to install windows, plug it into the pc, then select that as your boot option in the bios, then when it asks what drive you want to install windows on, just click the delete drive button to clear the drive.

For items that were purchased by mistake and not used. The product is essentially garbage to the vendor now.

It's up the consumer to know what they're buying. You don't have to advertise that your product isn't something, merely what it is.

Every retail store I have worked at has to...for new product. Used? Nope.

Returns on used product is a huge part of the reason on why retail pricing continuously increases.

I don't know if it is returnable now that you have used it but, whatever you do, don't wipe it! Use the drive's utility to Secure Erase it.

Yep, do a Secure Erase. Some motherboard BIOSes have the option right in there. Otherwise linux live USB with appropriate software.

Wiping it (writing 0s and 1s) will reduce remaining write life but it will still be initilized and formatted. Secure Erase will revert the SSD to an uninitialized state with little reduction in remaining write life. It will also be one heck of a lot faster.
