New Build, First build, won't power on

Go to solution Solved by PsionX,

It's Alive!

just had to reseat the GPU and it now seems to be working. Just have to get it set up and install windows.

a lesson perhaps to be added to the sticky, check the powerbutton header pins carefully, sometimes they are in a large block and it is easy to pin on the wrong ones.

I've just built a new computer after a power outtage destroyed my last one through a surge suppressor. My new build is:

Ryzen 7 3800X

ROG STRIX X570-E GAMING

ROG STRIX GTX1080 GAMING

2x16GB TRIDENT Z NEO DDR4 3600 CL16-19-19-39

2x SAMSUNG 1TB 970 EVO PLUS NVMe M.2

Corsair AX1000 PSU

ASUS TUF GAMING Case.

I plug the system into my new UPS, turn the switch on and press the button. Nothing. No sound, no boot, no fans.

Steps I have done:

1) Test power supply: paperclip and multimeter. power supply is brand new an supplying correct voltage. fans in the case spin up to show powersupply is working.

2) re-seated the RAM

3) tested the button with the multimeter, pressing the button creates continuity.

4) Unplugged and plugged back in the 24pin, 4+4 pin, and 4 pin power cables to the motherboard.

5) test the power supplied to the 4+4pin and 4 pin power cables for extra CPU power. - 12V

6) tried shorting across the front panel button pins. No start.

I am not sure I have extra thermal paste around so I don't want to reseat the CPU yet. Is there any other steps to take?

whoops, forgot to put the video card in the list.

Ok, progress. It will at least boot now, the front panel button had been accidentally plugged into the speaker header after one of my trouble shooting steps. which meant I shorted the wrong pins trying to get it started.

It is now giving me the signal of no VGA detected and the Q-code 02 "AP initialization after microcode loading"

Are you sure the UPS is actually on and providing power to your PC? Have you tried plugging your computer directly into an outlet just for testing purposes?

I had to re-seat a Ryzen Cpu like 5 times before it actually posted, the mobo was a refurb but non the less you might have to bite the bullet and reseat.
