Usb 3.1 gen2 type-e female to type-a male adapter

Hi,

I have an USB 3.1 gen2 type-c port on the front panel that is supposed to connect to the USB type-e female connector on the motherboard via a type-e male cable (something looking a bit like this). However, there isn't any type-e female connector on my MB. I thus thought I could maybe find a USB 3.1 gen2 type-e female connector to USB 3.1 gen2 type-a male adapter cable and just connect the front panel USB type-c port to a USB 3.1 gen2 type-a port on the back of the case (very inelegant, I must admit).

Now, a little googling left me with almost no options regarding USB type-e female adapters...

The only thing I found is a USB 3.1 gen2 type-e female to USB 3.1 gen1 20pin male adapter that allows to "fuse" 2 USB 3.1 gen1 ports on an internal header into a single USB 3.1 gen2 port...

https://www.silverstonetek.com/product.php?pid=871&area=en

That would have been nice except that I have only a single 20pin header on my MB and I would thus need another 20pin female to dual type-a adapter in order to connect the USB 3.1 gen1 ports from the front panel to those on the back of the case...

...

Well... Has anyone ever heard of USB type-e female adapters?

Or a company that would custom made the cable that I need maybe?

Or any other advice?

Thanks a lot for your input.

Best,

-a-

I just use a type c cable extension from the rear io to wherever I want it... or use a type c hub paired with an extension and mount it to the case if you really need it to be on the case.

Please quote my post, or put @paddy-stone if you want me to respond to you.

Thank you :)

I'd just like to avoid having non-functional ports anywhere... Then I forget and when I plug something into it I loose a lot of time troubleshooting ;)

I might just end up masking the front panel type-c port with tape, though...

Try this 20 pin splitter with the 20 pin adapter you found?

Nice! This should do the trick I guess. As long as I don't use both the type-c and the type-a ports of the front panel at the same time (then the bandwidth would be insufficient).

Thank you very much. That's a good solution to my problem.

Well...

Apparently it's not that simple: https://www.overclock.net/forum/18082-builds-logs-case-mods/1603398-20-pin-usb-3-0-internal-header-y-splitter-cable-issue.html

Have you tested this 1st hand?

I have not tested it myself. I would like to but I don't have one on hand at the moment. I found someone with your same situation here:

https://hardforum.com/threads/20-pin-usb-3-0-internal-header-y-splitter-issue.1989398/

They found the same cable but didn't say whether it worked for them or not. The people at the link below seem to think it will work, although I have also seen posts like yours which say it isn't possible. I guess $20 is cheaper than a replacement motherboard with the type E connector you need, although I wish I could tell you for sure it would work or not.

Apparently, this kind of Y splitters are only to be used with 20pin adapters that provide a single USB port (thus in the end, still only 2 ports are connected to the MB header)

https://www.frozencpu.com/products/22397/ele-1275/USB30_20-Pin_Female_to_2x_USB30_20-Pin_Male_Y_Adapter.html

I guess I should be using an internal hub or something

There are other options if I am willing to sacrifice one of the m.2 connectors (I need to double check compatibility of the keying, though)

M.2 to usb type-e header : https://www.delock.com/produkte/1089_M-2/63998/merkmale.html

M.2 to 20 pin header : https://www.delock.com/produkte/1089_M-2/62842/merkmale.html

Delock also have a few pcie x4 to internal usb3.1 gen2 type-e header (single or dual headers) available...

Or Silverstone SST-ECU02 seems to be less expensive. In my case this is probably the least expensive option to have all ports functioning. Unfortunately my MB doesn't have any pcie x2 ports (or x4... only x16 and x1 ports present) so this would mean sacrificing the 2nd (and last) x16 port... Need to think about it ?

I really wish someone would make a simple female usb3.1 gen2 type-e to male usb3.1 gen2 type-a cable, though

Even i did an extensive search. There's just nothing so simple to convert an internal header to back panel type c male.

I would really appreciate if someone finds something.
