Wrist Problems Using Mouse

Dumass

I’ve noticed this for a long time now. The part of my wrist I showed in the image attachment is less sensitive and the skin feels thicker too. After using the mouse for a while, it burns and stings a little too.

What can I do about this problem?

That's the right (outer) part of your wrist, right?

There are a couple of routes you could take:

- Everyone here will probably suggest a gel mousepad, which i don't personally like. That just makes it so you will only move your mouse with your wrist moving the pain to somewhere else..

- You could use a different type of mouse. A trackball doesn't involve as much hand movement, but rather relies on your fingers to do the legwork. There are also mice that are standing upright, which I personally am quite fond off. But if this is indeed the outer part of your wrist, you will probably still run into the same issue there

- Try mousing in a different way, like with a different hand for example

- Try to move away from the mouse, utilizing more keyboard shortcuts.

But if you feel like this is a more serious issue, you should probably contact a doctor about this.

I've had a similar problem. There are a few things I did.

  • Take a break from over using the mouse
  • I got a new mousepad, I needed a new one anyways.
  • When using the mouse for long periods of time, take a short break.

If it gets worse or doesnt get better after a couple weeks I'd recommend seeing your GP about it.

Idk if it's necessarily any significant part of why I don't have really any trouble with my wrist when using my mouse, but I usually crank my sensitivity up a bit higher than I've seen some gamers have theirs.

For example, moving my mouse horizontally about 20-35 mm or so (yes I'm from USA & normally use inches but figured metric would be easier to type) makes my character turn 180° (about face) in FPS games.  That way a quick short flick of the hand (the wrist can pretty much remain stationary on the mouse pad) makes me face my attacker when I'm attacked from behind.

I think I've seen @Edzel Yago on streams move his mouse across his large mouse pad (more like 300-500mm I guess) several times just to turn about 45° or so, I think.

I have a typical small mouse pad, usually in the portrait orientation due to limited horizontal space by my PC.  In Windows, moving the mouse about half way across or so gets my cursor all the way across the screen.

If I'm having issues with my hands, it's either because I'm typing too much too fast, not taking enough breaks, etc, or because of dry and cool weather at some times in the year, resulting in

Welcome to the club, buddy. :)

Seriously though, it's a normal part of having your arm rest on a hard surface for years and years on end. You can alleviate the problem by getting one of these:

or by simply having a huge mousepad so your arm is always resting on the pad.

I also have one of these wristrests for the keyboard, I don't know how much it helps but it feels nice:

Samsung 860 EVO 500GB

Noctua NH-U14S

Seasonic M12II 620W

+ four different mechanical drives.

-> Moved to Peripherals

Though I'm not sure if that's the right place either.

That looks like your wrist is hitting something sharp-ish. So not directly from mouse, but from way and on what you are using it. How about posting pic of your desk? First identify where it comes from, probably sharp edge of table or too thick mouse pad.

Those who suggested gel wrist rest... That won't help this as those are more about getting wrist at right angle.
