New PC. Need help.

United_Chi

So, I've finished building my pc using my mechanical hard drive with Windows on it from my old rig. Works fine.

I would like to buy an m.2 ssd drive to have only my windows on it.

Is it not possible to just install the ssd, download windows to the new drive, and then select the bios to boot windows from the new drive, or do I still have to do all this nonsense with using a usb stick?

Yes, you have still do "all this nonsense" with another device. Since we are talking about OS, you need to use another drive to install it. You could use bootable partition on internal drive for it, if you wanted to have some "fun". But it still needs to be another bootable drive as setup is bootable.

You have option to migrate current install also which you, surprise surprise, still would do by booting into migration tool.
