Can I allocate more ram for file transfer?

The_JF

I was transfering 45gb of video files from my external ssd to an internal ssd. First 10gb or so went over with 450mb/s and then the cache on the ssd was full. My internal disk usage was 100% but it only used 29% of ram. Since I had about 35gb or so ram free, couldn't windows use it up to act as cache? If it's possible, then how do I it?

Ram used as a cache, often won't show up under the % on task manager.

Also you don't want to have a lot of ram acting as a cache, as there is a good change of data corruption if something happens to go wrong.

What ssd are you copying to, that speed seems slow for a ssd.

Primocache is what I use, I can transfer 20-30GB files in the matter of seconds yes it takes a bit for it to offload onto the drive but is done in the background.

It's useless, you won't get any time gain, all it would do is show you it's "done" quicker, except it isn't... you just risk more data loss if the PC crashes.

except that I could start importing them into premiere, even if it sits on ram as cache. It's going to end up there anyway after a while in premiere

But if there is any issue, all that footage is gone.

Thats seems slower than it should be. Try to force a trim on the drive.

I don't delete on my ssd until I'm done with the project, unless I need to go to another shoot. I rarely have any issues with my windows or pc, so it shouldn't affect me at all.

How do I force a trim on a drive?
