Using Noctua fans as GPU fans on the stock 1080 heatsink?

Tieox

After some inspiration from this 2017 video from Linus

I am seriously tempted to try this on my Gigabyte G1 1080, as the fan shroud is made from the same plastic as the dividing tray in a box of chocolates.

I am curious though how he manages the thermal temperature/fan speed ratio for the GPU by installing the fans to the motherboard?

PC - NZXT H510 Elite, Ryzen 5600, 16GB DDR3200 2x8GB, EVGA 3070 FTW3 Ultra, Asus VG278HQ 165hz,

Mac - 1.4ghz i5, 4GB DDR3 1600mhz, Intel HD 5000.  x2

Thanks, just need to ensure the two fans I use (likely Noctua) are not drawing over the amp capabilities of the 1080 fan port.

or just set then to 100% and that'll do it too

I do like a quiet idle, but I see how manual control could be a thing.

I do not know if this will help but I watch a similar video yesterday from some one else that daisy chained the fans and used an adaptor to hook up to the card its self. I can remember the video but here is the connector

EDIT: Found the video. Go to 6:40 to see the connector. Also on Amazon just type in pwm fan adaptor. I found this:

Long time ago I had shitty Gainward GTX970 Phantom, temps was horrible on this card, so I stripped shroud and attached two 120mm fans, this solution wasn’t prettiest but worked great.

Connect them to the mobo and use speedfan

or get a powered 3 way splitter. Use the adapter on the cards fan controller as reference. Then plug the other fans in and they will be controlled by the gpu.

Thanks all, even getting two new Noctua fans, plus the splitter this is by far the cheapest solution.
